A Few Days in Pictures

I’ve been taking a few pictures this week. I don’t really know why. This week is full of studying, school, Destiny, and… taking pictures, I guess. I like photography, but I wouldn’t say it’s something I’m very interested in. Nonetheless, I do snap some photos now and again. Here are a few from the past few days.

Cream soda 🙂 – Saturday

Science – Monday

My desk – Tuesday

The bleak outdoors – Tuesday

Flowers at night – Tuesday

Side Note: I haven’t been posting as much and I’d like to make an excuse about that, but I won’t. I’m always busy so that’s not a good excuse. I simply don’t have very many ideas. 😦 But I’m going to try and get better.

I watched the sun set over the beach. It’s funny how a little thing like a sunset is really not such a little thing. It’s a beautiful thing and there’s no better way to experience it then to see it by a large body of water. The way the light reflects off of the water and colors the clouds is amazing to see. It’s one part of nature that I have always been in awe of.

Yesterday, when I saw the sunset, I tried to ingrain it into my memory so that I could write about it later. Here is what I remember: large clouds skirting across the western sky, the sun quickly descending into the midst of them. I remember the riot of colors that exploded into being as the sun passed by the clouds. There were pinks, reds, oranges, and gold. I remember the grey-blue of the clouds and the white-tipped waves that rushed to the shore.

I can never see something as it truly is for long, because my imagination takes over and I see a new world. No matter how old and mature I get I never want to stop seeing things as they could be, or imagining things into being. Yesterday, I saw a cloud boat. It was floating near the water, a little to the east of the sunset, away from the docks and moorings of the cloud islands. It was colored pink and a tiny white flag could be seen fluttering in the breeze. Soon, it had sailed away into the evening sky.

There were lots of people down by the shore. There were kids playing in the water and on the dunes. They played in the sand and by the shore. The adults were snapping pictures and walking up and down the beach. I wondered what it would be like if no one worried about taking the perfect picture and we all just watched the sunset instead. Of course, I thought of Look On Up by Relient K. I was seeing that song play out in front of my eyes. Pictures are great, but they can never replace the beauty and wonder of seeing a real sunset.

Those are my thoughts. 🙂

Why I’m Still Working on School

It’s July 8. The sun is shining down on my neighborhood full of kids that are busy enjoying their break from school. Well, not every kid is done with school. Hi there! It’s me, Claire, and while the rest of the country is on vacation I’m still working on school. I’m still working on my massive Omnibus IV, three subjects in one book (theology, history, and literature).

I’d be lying if I said I was excited to be doing school in July, but I would also be lying if I told you I wasn’t. It’s a strange thing, but yes, I still enjoy doing school this late in the year. Not all the time, but most of the time I still enjoy it. I enjoy getting up early to work on my latest essay or to read a few chapters of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. I love the books I’ve been getting to read, as well as the excuse to sit on the porch and read all day.

Of course, it truly isn’t all fun and games. It’s hard work focusing on school when everyone else is watching Star Wars and Zootopia, or spending a restful afternoon just drawing. Sometimes I want to quit, and sometimes I do, but most of the time I keep going. I fight through the distractions and find that not quitting is ten times more satisfying than quitting. There are times when I take breaks, but only after I’ve worked hard and accomplished a lot, or when I know that I need a break.

Now, school isn’t the only thing I’ve been doing lately. I’ve been reading for fun a lot. Right now I’m reading Farmer Boy and Coronation Summer (Angela Thirkell). Yesterday I started a puzzle. I love puzzles! There’s something so satisfying about fitting all the pieces together. 🙂 I have also been watching the original Star Wars trilogy and yesterday I watched The Phantom Menace, which was not as bad as I expected it to be. I mean, yeah, the acting wasn’t great and there were some cheesy jokes that I rolled my eyes at, but it wasn’t half bad. I can’t wait to watch Attack of the Clones.

Happy Summer!

Happy Day

Today has been such a fun day and I don’t even really know why. I am at church again and my whole day has been a mixture of working and four-square (a very fun game). Nothing new has happened, and yet I’ve had fun today just hanging out with my family and some friends of our family who are almost like family because I’ve known them for so long.

It’s fun being around everyone because as we work we all talk about random things, listen to music we all enjoy, and laugh (a ton of laughing). Earlier today I took these pictures of the church.

☺ I’ve been going to this church for so long that it feels like a second home.

But the best part of the day was this morning while I played my ukulele. It was so relaxing to just sit there before my long day and relax.

Thank You Relient K

My first thankful list

1. Today was a long day, but a good one. It helps to remember that I don’t have to live for tomorrow. Today is today and that is the only day I have to live for. One step at a time or you’ll trip. ☺

2. When times get tough and I can’t think of positives, I always remember life. Life is an amazing gift. I get to live today. I breathe the air and my heart is beating. I get to live today and that’s something that I can never forget to thank God for.

Collapsible Lung (Relient K) is a great song. I’ve been listening to it a lot. It inspired the two things on my thankful list. 😊 Thank You Relient K.

These are some pictures of my neighborhood this morning. It was all covered in dew and the color of the sky was beautiful. 🙂 I love foggy mornings.

Today was the first day of testing! I am actually still at the church now, sitting by an open window as the rain patters down outside. After lunch (ham sandwiches and carrot sticks) me and my siblings played a fun game called four-square, and then me and my sister Abby played soccer while my other two siblings finished their tests (Abby won 4-2). It’s been a fun day of testing and actually relaxing, i.e not worrying about school for a while. I am really enjoying my break so far.

Happy Star Wars Day! May the fourth be with you! I am going to celebrate by putting my hair up like Rey’s. 🙂

I’m home now and eating chocolate covered almonds. This post is turning into a journal entry. 😉 I have Little House in the Big Woods sitting beside me waiting to be read.

Star Wars Stuff…

  1. (One of) My favorite scene(s): nerfherder

2. Favorite character…?

There’s just a few… XD

3. Favorite Movie (of the ones that I’ve seen):

There’s my Star Wars/Journaling post!

Getting Excited

I find that it is getting harder and harder for me to find inspiration for blog posts. Every day I write  a post (except for that one day), and most of the time I write them late at night when I am dead tired. It’s really not good for me. :/

Today I am going to write one early in the day (11:00 am). I always have ideas for blog posts earlier in the day, so that’s what I’m going to do.

Trying To Get Excited

As I mentioned yesterday. I am not really excited about summer. I think it’s because I still have school to do and because things change during summer; people leave, people come, memories are made, friendships that last a second are made… It’s all very… temporary. It passes in a flash and then it’s gone, like it had never been. Then, in September, it’s back to the grind of everyday, where life isn’t easy and breezy and fun.

I know, I know. I’m such a pessimist, but I’m trying to get better.

It has been hard to look forward to summer, but I’ve been trying to get myself excited.

The peony plants are growing.

love the peonies! They flower in June and I always look forward to their lovely, heady fragrance. They are also absolutely gorgeous! 🙂 See!

The weirdest thing is that I think I can smell them and they haven’t even bloomed yet!

The weather is amazing in summer, because it can be warm, cool, and burning hot! I love warm weather, much more than snow and cold, so that’s something to look forward to. Even more than the warm weather I am looking forward to the storms! This is a view from one side of the front yard.

This is a view from the other side. It’s been like this all day. One moment it’s sunny, the next it’s cloudy and windy. I wish it would just storm already! XD

I will also have some more time to read during the summer. It won’t be much, but I plan on reading a lot. Here are some of the books I plan on starting/finishing:

  1. Little House Books (Laura Ingalls Wilder)
  2. Mistress Pat (L.M.M)
  3. Hattie Big Sky and Hattie Ever After (Kirby Larson)

That’s my reading plan for now. Click here, to view my to-read list. Yes, I know it’s long. 🙂

will watch the Star Wars prequels this summer, no matter how terrible everyone says they are because I really want to be able to experience all of the movies. Please don’t hate me. 😛

Other things to look forward to:

  • Writing
  • Swimming
  • Healthy snacks and meals and EVERYTHING
  • Summer Camp
  • VBS
  • Lilacs
  • Garage/Yard Sales

Here is a picture of Sampson, my dog. He loves doing school with me.

I guess there are some things to look forward to this summer. 🙂 I will keep trying to raise my spirits about summer.

Have a good day my friends and may the force be with you.

April Days

More pictures today because I have been at the soccer field a lot over the past week or so and because I get bored during school sometimes. 🙂

My science book

My sister (Abby)’s artwork

Pictures of the sky at the soccer field (on different days).

April has been good to me, not too many rainy days and not too many sunny ones. I love being able to sit outside on the porch all day while I do school and taking bike rides with my family (which I did yesterday). I also love going to the soccer field and watching/commenting on the game… while trying to do school. I usually (always) end up watching the game and not getting anything done. 🙂

Other things that have been going on:

On Sunday nights (at church) I teach a class of four to seven year-old’s along with a couple of friends of mine. Listening to their (the kid’s) answers to the questions I ask them is really encouraging, because I can tell that they are actually learning something. 🙂

Also on Sunday nights, I sit in on the practice for a play that we are putting on for Vacation Bible School in June. I’m in charge of the sound effects and whatnot. I love my job. 😀 The play is so hilarious and I love watching my friends (and my sister Abby) get into character.

Big news! Today, I watched a how-to video on Rey’s (from TFA) hairstyle in the movie! I tried it out and am happy to report that it is really simple and fun to do! Here’s the link. (Yes, it is supposed to start in the middle)

Wrote this last night…never published it :(

I am frustrated by a lot of things.

  1. I feel like I never get anything done. Ever.
  2. I can never relax because there is always something to be done.
  3. When I get a lot done, it’s never enough
  4. I didn’t have time to practice piano today! 😥
  5. I have an idea for a story that will probably never have a beginning, middle, or end!
  6. I always do these posts super late in the day!

Yeah, that was me complaining. Here’s me… not complaining?

  1. Picking flowers with my sister XD
  2. Story ideas
  3. More fun times with little kids
  4. Four square (a fun game) at church
  5. did get time to relax today
  6. Fragole (Italian) and waffles (thank you sister!)

I listened to music today:

  1. The Blues (Switchfoot)
  2. Hello Hurricane (Switchfoot)

I wrote (a tiny bit) today. Here is a snippet:

It was a warm afternoon, just as spring was coming into full bloom, and everything hinted that summer was nearing quickly. The air was full of that lovely sound, the orchestra of a neighborhood in spring. The hum of lawnmowers and passing cars mixed with the happy sound of children playing to create a summery background noise. The twitter of a dozen species of birds and and the rustling of tiny leaves completed the delicate waltz.

Good-Night, Sleep Tight…

Wait! Here are some pictures of Twenty One Pilots:
